Everything you finish starts fading the moment you put it on a shelf. Sunlight through a window is the obvious culprit, but ordinary fluorescent and LED room lighting does it too, slowly and evenly enough that you don't notice until you compare a display piece against a photo of it from three years ago. Reds and yellows shift first, white plastic goes creamy, and there's no undoing it.

Mr. Super Clear UV Cut is a gloss lacquer clear with UV filtering built in, formulated specifically to slow that down. You get the same hard, glassy, self-levelling finish as standard Super Clear — the coat that polishes to a mirror and shrugs off handling — with protection against the thing that quietly degrades every model on open display. If your work lives in a cabinet by a window, or you're finishing a Gunpla kit in white and light grey that you'd like to still look white in five years, this is the can. 170ml.

  • UV filtering slows fading from sunlight and room lighting
  • Helps protect white and light plastics from yellowing
  • Full lacquer hardness — polishes to a mirror finish
  • Self-levelling for glass-like depth
  • 170ml — sized for display pieces and large models

Read this before you spray it.

  • Not recommended over water-based paints. This is Mr. Hobby's own guidance for the solvent Super Clear range. If your model is painted in acrylics, use a water-based top coat instead, or test on a spare part first and build up mist coats before any wet pass.
  • Never on clear parts. Lacquer crazes canopies, windscreens and visors.
  • Avoid high humidity. Mr. Hobby specifically warn of clouding — pick a dry day, not a sticky summer afternoon.
  • Ventilation is not optional. Spray booth or outdoors, respirator on.

Tip: UV protection is preventive, not curative. It slows future fading; it can't recover colour already lost. Coat a model when it's finished, not when you notice it looking tired — and if you have older favourites on display that haven't been sealed, they're worth doing now rather than later.

Which one do I need? UV Cut Gloss (B-522) for anything on permanent display, near a window, or in light-coloured plastic. Standard Super Clear Gloss (B-513) where UV isn't a factor — models kept in a case or a drawer. Mr. Top Coat (B-501/B-502) when the paint underneath is water-based, or clear parts and delicate decals rule lacquer out.
