Matt finishes fade too. It's easy to think of UV damage as a gloss-model problem — the shiny car body in the window — but a flat-finished tank sitting on a shelf loses its colour just as surely, and camouflage schemes show it badly. Greens go grey, the browns and dark yellows drift, and the careful relationship between the colours quietly comes apart over a few years of ordinary room light.

This is the can that solves that without compromising the finish. Dead flat, zero reflection, with UV filtering built into a hard lacquer film — so a display model gets the finish military subjects need and the protection permanent display demands, in one pass. It's the same tough, hard-wearing lacquer as standard Super Clear, so it also survives handling and transport to shows. 170ml.

  • UV filtering slows fading on models kept on open display
  • Dead flat, zero-reflection finish
  • Lacquer hardness — survives handling and transport
  • Unifies paint, decals and touch-ups into one surface
  • 170ml can

Read this before you spray it.

  • Humidity causes frosting, and flat lacquers are the most vulnerable of all. Spray on a dry day, warm the can in hand-hot water, keep the model warm, and build thin coats. If the air is sticky, wait — this is the one finish where impatience genuinely costs you the paint job.
  • Not recommended over water-based paints — Mr. Hobby's guidance for the solvent range. See the alternative below.
  • Never on clear parts. Lacquer crazes canopies and visors.
  • Ventilation is not optional. Spray booth or outdoors, respirator on.

Tip: UV protection is preventive, not curative — it slows future fading and can't recover colour already lost. If you have older display pieces that were never sealed, they're worth coating now rather than after you notice them looking tired.

Which one do I need? This and Premium Top Coat UV-Cut Matt (B-604) do the same job at the same 170ml size — flat finish, UV protection. The choice is chemistry, not features. B-523 (this can) is lacquer: harder, tougher, but not for clear parts and not recommended over water-based paints. B-604 is water-based: safe over acrylics, decals and clear parts, with a softer film. Pick on what your model is painted with and what parts it has. For UV protection in gloss, B-522.
