Worth saying up front: Ford never built an XY GT ute. The GT was a sedan, full stop. This is a what-if — the ute Ford should have made and didn't — and it's a popular enough idea that DDA sells a GT conversion kit so modellers can build the same thing themselves. If you want a factory-correct XY ute, this isn't it. If you like the idea of a 351 GT with a tray on the back, it's exactly it.

The XY GT is the car this borrows from, and everything that makes one recognisable is here: the shaker scoop punching through a blacked-out bonnet, the GT front bar with its four driving lights, the twin stripe down the flanks and the 12-slotters on redline tyres. Grafted onto the long, plain lines of a Falcon ute, it works better than it has any right to.

The casting is well finished for the money. Metallic purple over crisp gold pinstripes that carry the full length of the body and down the tray side, chrome bumpers, grille, rocker trim and twin sports mirrors, roof aerial and twin wipers. The tray is properly modelled inside with floor ribs and inner wheel arches rather than being left as a plain box, and the interior is visible through clear glazing.

Please note: the front doors open, the bonnet and boot do not. This is a sealed-body diecast, not a full-detail model with an engine bay.

At 1:24 the model measures around 20cm long.
