The SMS Method

SMS's own layering recipe, from the people who mixed the colours: airbrush Dark Orange Rust as the base, then mottle Light Orange Rust over it for tonal variation. With a paint brush, add random splotches of a dark blue (SMS's PL71 Insignia Blue is their pick) and edge those patches with Red Rust, Red Oxide or a dark brown. Tie the whole surface together with a light dusting coat of Red Rust or Red Oxide through the airbrush, then finish by dry-brushing SMS Weathering Pigments in Earth and Red Earth.
