The PL-13 solves the wiring problem every live-frog layout runs into: how to switch frog polarity in perfect sync with the point blades. This simple single-pole changeover switch fixes directly beneath a Peco PL-10 series point motor and is thrown by the motor's own action — so whenever the point changes, the switch changes with it, automatically. Frog polarity is the classic use, but anything that should follow the direction of a turnout can hang off it: ground signals, panel indicator lights, isolated sidings.

How It Works

The switch attaches to the underside of the PL-10 family of turnout motors — PL-10, PL-10E, PL-10W and PL-10WE — using contact adhesive, adding electrical switching without any extra linkage or mechanism. Because the point motor itself throws the switch, the accessory circuit can never fall out of step with the blades: set-and-forget reliability for Electrofrog and other live-frog trackwork. Rated at 1.5 amps, suitable for OO/HO and larger scales.

One Switch or Two?

The PL-13 provides a single changeover circuit. If a turnout needs to drive two independent circuits — say frog polarity and a signal — the PL-15 twin accessory switch is the same idea with two microswitches. Choose by counting the jobs each point has to do.

Solder-Free Wiring

Peco's PL-31 spade connectors push straight onto the PL-13's terminals, letting you wire (and later re-wire or fault-find) without a soldering iron under the baseboard. One installation tip from long experience: leave a little slack and anchor the wires near the switch — dressing the wiring so it can't be tugged protects the switch through years of under-board maintenance.
