Solenoid point motor from the PECO Lectrics range, built around an installation system that removes the two classic headaches of under-board point motors: cutting a large rectangular hole in the baseboard, and working upside-down in the dark to fit it.

Installation uses the supplied drilling template to mark just three small holes from above — two for the mounting studs, one centre hole for the drive pin, which threads through the turnout's tie bar. The motor then twists and locks onto the studs from below, seating firmly in perfect alignment. Just as usefully, it can be removed and refitted repeatedly without losing that alignment — a genuine advantage come baseboard maintenance or layout changes. The motor arrives pre-wired, so there's no soldering at the terminals, and the drive pin is long enough to work through baseboards up to 15mm thick.

Compatibility spans all Peco turnouts up to O gauge, and many other manufacturers' points as well — one motor type across an entire mixed layout. An extra operating bar and stud spacers are included for surface-mounting where under-board access doesn't exist, with the dedicated PL-1006 surface mount available separately for a tidier above-board installation. Peco's twist-on microswitch attachment (sold separately) adds frog polarity switching in the same tool-free spirit.

Being a solenoid, it operates from a standard 16V accessory supply (drawing up to 3A on firing) and pairs well with a capacitor discharge unit for crisp, coil-friendly operation. Peco recommends the PL-26 passing contact switch, PL-34 wiring harness, and PL-27 switch console as companions.
