The most famous helicopter in history, at a scale that does it justice. The Bell UH-1 Iroquois — the "Huey" — is the sound and silhouette of an entire era: over 16,000 built, some 7,000 serving in Vietnam, the machine that defined the helicopter war. HobbyBoss models it in massive 1/18 scale: the finished aircraft stretches 845mm long and 220mm wide — nearly a metre of Huey — making this less a shelf model than a centrepiece.

One Kit, Two Gunships

The kit builds as either variant: the UH-1B, the troop-transport and gunship workhorse in service from 1961, or the UH-1C, the dedicated gunship development that arrived in September 1965 with its improved rotor. Over 160 parts in grey, clear and black plastic, with metal components for the rotor shaft — the mechanical strength the big rotor demands.

A Builder's Project

At this size the Huey is a genuine project: sub-assembly building and test-fitting pay off, and the community's honest tip is that the glazing — especially the large windscreen — rewards patient, careful fitting. Paint and cement are required; the payoff is a display piece with the presence only 1/18 scale delivers. Check your shelf first — this one needs real estate.
