The FB arrived in January 1960 and is the Holden everyone recognises from the tailfins — a burst of American styling influence, with the wraparound windscreen and the chrome to match. It ran the 138 cubic inch grey motor and lasted barely eighteen months before the EK replaced it, which makes it one of the shorter-lived Holdens and a favourite among collectors for exactly that reason.

The ute version did the work. FB utes ran on farms, in trade yards and on service station forecourts right through the sixties, and a fuel company livery is where a lot of people first saw one — which is what makes this casting more than just a model of a car.

Service station liveries are one of the most collected themes in Australian diecast. The oil companies of that era each had their own colours and signage, and a shelf of liveried utes reads as a piece of Australian roadside history rather than a row of similar models.

At 1:43 the model measures roughly 10.5cm long — the standard scale for building a collection, since a full run fits on a single shelf.
