The ARA311201 is Arrma's 15 tooth aluminium (aluminum) layshaft gear, the transmission gear that takes drive through to the rear gearbox. It fits the entire 1/10 2WD range — Freedom Flyer, Fury, Gorgon, Quake and Vorteks.

The layshaft gear sits mid-drivetrain, meshing on both sides, so it sees the full motor output and does so continuously. It's a wear part by design: the teeth take load in one direction under power and the other under braking, and a gear that has rounded off will start slipping under load or making noise before it lets go entirely. Fitting a worn layshaft gear against fresh neighbours is a false economy — it will chew them too.

Also referred to as the slipper layshaft gear or idler gear, depending on the manual and the aftermarket supplier.
