How It Works

Pull the cord and the spring-loaded claws pop out to grab the engine's flywheel, spinning it over; release, and they retract clear so the running engine spins free. The claws on this unit are black nylon — the standard type fitted to Baja-class starters from the factory — making this a straight like-for-like replacement.

Fitment: The 23–30.5cc Engine Family

Per Rovan's listing, this unit fits the HPI Baja 5B, 5T and 5SC, Rovan Sport and Terminator trucks and buggies, King Motor T1000, and CY and most Zenoah engines from 23cc to 30.5cc — the standard Baja-class engine family. Running a 32cc or 36cc big-block? You need the larger starter (Rovan 67060 series) instead. Displacement is the fitment: check your engine's cc before ordering.

Fitting

Direct replacement: four screws off, four screws on, no disassembly of the old unit required. While the starter's off, it's worth a two-second glance at the flywheel's catch points — a starter that died of kickback sometimes takes a chip out of them.
