Black Green No. 40 is one of the workhorses of the Revell Email Color range — a matt enamel matched to RLM 70 Schwarzgrün, the deep blackish-green that dominated Luftwaffe camouflage through the first half of WWII. If you're building an early-war He 111, Ju 88 or Bf 110 in the classic RLM 70/71 splinter scheme, or simply need the correct colour for German propeller blades, this is the tin the instructions are pointing at when they call out "40".

Authentic RLM 70 Schwarzgrün

Revell's colour 40 covers the standard uppersurface camouflage of early-WWII Luftwaffe bombers and heavy fighters, applied in the familiar hard-edged splinter pattern alongside RLM 71 Dark Green (Revell No. 39, sold separately) over RLM 65 undersides. It also matches the black-green used on German propeller blades throughout the war, making it a staple even for late-war builds.

Classic Enamel Formula

Email Color is Revell's synthetic resin enamel — formulated so it won't attack polystyrene, with the smooth, self-levelling finish and long working time that keep enamel painters loyal. It adheres to plastic, wood and metal without special preparation, and all Email Color shades (except signal colours) can be intermixed to create custom tones.

Brush or Airbrush

Straight from the tin for brushing, or thin with Revell Color Mix for spraying — Revell recommends diluting at no more than 3 parts paint to 2 parts Color Mix, and cautions that third-party thinners can degrade the finish. Touch dry in around 20 minutes, recoatable after 4 hours, with full cure in 24 hours depending on coat thickness. Clean up with Revell Painta Clean for brushes or Airbrush Clean for spray equipment.

Enamel, Not Acrylic

Note the chemistry: 32140 is the enamel version of this colour. If you work in water-based acrylics, the same Black Green Matt is available as Aqua Color 36140 instead.
