Two Very Different Corsairs

The F4U-1A is the classic: raised cockpit and blown canopy over the long "hose-nose," the definitive land- and carrier-based fighter of the type's breakthrough years. The F4U-2 is the rare one — the US Navy's pioneering radar night fighter, converted with a radome pod on the starboard wing and flown by the first night fighter units in the Pacific. Side by side they tell a story most Corsair shelves can't: the day fighter and the night hunter, same airframe, different wars after dark.

The Build

Finely detailed fuselage and wings, a realistic R-2800 engine, detailed landing gear bays and a decal sheet, moulded in grey and clear. At skill level 3 this is an intermediate build — each aircraft finishes at 215mm long with a 260mm wingspan, a classic display size in 1/48. Paint and cement are required, as with all plastic kits.
