SNJ-5/AT-6 Texan 1.5m BNF Basic with AS3X+ and SAFE Select Overview

Before student pilots during World War II became hot-shot Allied fighter jocks, they first needed to gain experience using an advanced trainer. The tough AT-6 Texan gave them the ability to handle all the bad habits of a fighter and become well-disciplined with a high level of respect for their aircraft. U.S. Navy pilots flew the airplane extensively under the SNJ designation, and today, hundreds of AT-6s continue to fly, serving well beyond their trainer role. The E-flite SNJ-5/AT-6 Texan 1.5m is a rare tribute to the unsung warbird, equipped with an upgraded 3S and 4S compatible power system, including a Spektrum Avian 70A Smart Lite ESC. The BNF Basic version also includes a telemetry-capable AR631+ receiver with enhanced AS3X+® technology – plus optional-use SAFE® Select technology to make it even easier for a wide range of pilots to fly and enjoy!

E-flite has updated and upgraded the SNJ-5/AT-6 1.5m to make it the most capable and easiest to fly scale replica of the Texan yet! The airframe is factory-finished in an iconic scheme based on the SNJ-5 “101,” which is still being flown by High Sky Wing – a unit of the Commemorative Air Force based in Midland, Texas. It features a variety of scale details, including molded-in panel lines, a simulated radial engine, a detailed cockpit with a pilot figure, and more. Plus, its functional flaps and retractable landing gear add to the scale flying experience. The upgraded 3S and 4S 2200–4000mAh compatible power system features a 70A Spektrum Avian Smart Lite ESC. The BNF Basic version is equipped with an AR631+ receiver, delivering real-time telemetry data along with enhanced AS3X+ and optional-use SAFE Select technologies. You don't need any glue for assembly, so you can get flying faster, typically in less time than it takes to charge a battery. The one-piece wing is easy to remove/install for even easier transport and storage thanks to hands-free servo connections. It all adds up to deliver features, handling, and performance that make it an excellent choice for intermediate to advanced warbird pilots!

E-Flite SNJ-5/AT-6 Texan

I purchased this model from Mick a few days ago, it had its maiden flight this morning. This is one impressive model and well worth adding to your stable. Colour scheme is fantastic which really sells this model. The model comes with fin / rudder, prop and receiver already installed. You just need to insert the stabilizer and secure with 2 screws and add the one-piece wing. The wing slots into place and into usb plugs in the wing, no plugging in servo, flap or undercarriage leads. other manufacturers please take note. 4 bolts secure the wing in place. Total assembly is 6 screws and about 10 minutes, what could be easier. I bound the model to my receiver and rudder, elevator & ailerons all centered precisely. You can bind to the transmitter with or without SAFE or AS3X activated, I bound without SAFE & AS3X. CoG balanced at 90mm (range is 75-90mm) back with a 4s 3300 mah Lipo. Time to maiden. Model was lined up, power added, be ready to correct any swing with rudder (just like the full size). Model took off effortlessly, wheels retracted and into the circuit. Model was very stable and reacted positively to all controls. Typical Texan aerobatics look fantastic, landing with full flap is excellent, model can slow down without fear of tip stalling. Again, be ready with rudder on touchdown as per the full-size. Overall, a very impressive model. Go see Mick about getting one.
