The small bottle that makes the big one work. Aerokote is a two-pack system — the fuel-resistant lacquer only cures when mixed with its catalyst, and this is that catalyst: the BD47 hardener for Aerokote Gloss, Aerokote Matt and Flexikote, in a 15ml bottle. Mix at 10:1 by volume — 25ml of Aerokote takes 2.5ml of catalyst, per Deluxe's own guidance — and the result is the finish Aerokote is famous for: touch-dry in minutes, and once cured, shrugging off glow fuel with high nitro content, petrol, and the full range of model fuels and oils.

Why a Spare Catalyst Earns Its Shelf Space

Two honest reasons. Bigger projects: the catalyst supplied in an Aerokote kit is portioned for the tin, and a large airframe can run the maths tight. Fresh chemistry: an uncured, gummy Aerokote job is almost always a hardener problem — skipped, mismeasured, or a catalyst past its best — and at this price, fresh catalyst is the cheapest insurance a whole tin of lacquer and a week of finishing work can have. Measure accurately (a pipette or syringe makes 10:1 easy), mix thoroughly, and Aerokote does the rest.
