The Ford Escort Mk2, launched in 1975, represented a major evolution of the original Escort Mk1 introduced in 1968. While retaining its proven mechanical reliability, the Mk2 featured a completely redesigned body that reflected the bold styling trends of the 1970s.

Alongside practical road-going versions, Ford introduced sportier variants such as the Escort Sport, which offered a more aggressive exterior design and a distinctly sporty interior. The range was further strengthened by the RS 1800, powered by a 115hp twin-cam engine. This high-performance version became the foundation for the Escort’s successful rally career, achieving significant results in the World Rally Championship.

Between 1977 and 1978, the renowned Zakspeed Team developed and campaigned a dedicated Group 2 racing version of the Escort Mk2, cementing the model’s reputation in international motorsport.
