Every siding needs an ending. The rail-built buffer stop is the prototype's thrifty classic — old rails bent, bolted and braced into a stop, with a timber beam across the face — and it's been the standard line-ender on narrow gauge and main line alike, from Queensland branch sidings to Swiss metre-gauge termini. Peco's kit reproduces it for the 12mm range with simulated wood-grain beam detail, and the pack contains parts for two buffer stops — track not included.

A Quick Kit, Two Endings

Supplied unassembled — a simple, satisfying few minutes with plastic cement per stop — and with two in the pack, one purchase caps a pair of sidings. The maths of buffer stops is pleasingly simple: every siding, yard road and terminus platform needs one, so count your track plan's dead ends before checkout; a modest layout uses two or three packs before the fiddle yard.

Two Styles in the Range

This SL-1440 is the rail-built type — the timeless old-rails design that looked the same in 1920 as it does today, suiting every era and region the 12mm system serves. Peco also makes the SL-1441 steel box type in this gauge for a more modern industrial look; pick by your line's character, or mix them as the prototype does.

Fits the 12mm System

For Peco's 12mm gauge range — H0m for European metre gauge, HOn3½ for Queensland Rail and other 3ft 6in prototypes — alongside SL-1400 flexi, the medium and curved turnouts, double slip, diamond crossing and even a turntable (LK-1455). A complete narrow-gauge system, made in England.
