Description:

July 31, 1942 made its first flight prototype of the next modification of the night fighter - Do 217N V-1. By the end of 1942, the aircraft began to be mass-produced and began to enter combat units. The original modification of Do 217N-1 differed from the J-2 only in DB 603A engines and in the restoration of the existing bomb bay. The need to return to the aircraft the ability to carry bombs was dictated by the fact that it was intended to be used on the eastern front as a long-range night fighter.
At the beginning of 1944, Do 217 J and N planes were gradually removed from the night fighter units, and by the middle of the year they were no longer there. In total, in 1942 - 1943, 364 Do 217 night-time fighters were produced, of various modifications.
