Israeli Defense Forces were the largest users of Sherman tanks in the world. Type M50 Super Sherman It was developed in the 60s and served many times successfully participated in fights.
However, in order to compete with modern Soviet tanks equipped with Arab countries hostile to Israel, they had to develop a more perfect model known as the M51 Super Sherman.
The new Sherman's first combat test took place during the border conflict with Syria. Then it was already used in both the Six-Day War of 1967 and the Yom Kippur War in 1973, in which it successfully fought the Egyptian and Syrian T-55 and T-62.
Despite this, it was gradually replaced by more modern Centurions and M48, and finally M60 and decommissioned in the first line. Instead, the M50 / 51 series was delegated to the mechanized reserve defense brigades.
A large number of Shermans received Chile from Israel. Others have been reclassified to various specialized versions.
